About Me

I am an actively engaged therapist (meaning I don’t just sit and listen), and I work collaboratively with you to find a pathway through your distress to get you to the place you want to be. The foundation of my approach is creating a relationship with you that is nonjudgmental, compassionate and fosters trust and safety. I make a point of meeting you where you are and tailoring interventions to meet your current needs. I operate from a strengths-based approach, which means I value your capacity, skills, knowledge, connections, and potential. We work together to understand the factors that led you to your current struggles, including past traumas, maladaptive intergenerational patterns, relationship dynamics, cultural influences, broader societal messages, changing roles, life stressors, and more. My goal is to help you help yourself.

I integrate concepts and strategies from a number of theories, but Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a cornerstone of my therapeutic process. We work together to identify problematic thought patterns and beliefs that are keeping you stuck and help you to actively challenge those thought patterns. I will ask you to do homework (although I am flexible and understanding if it doesn’t happen), and I will help you discover new, concrete tools and strategies to try. I also often incorporate concepts and skills from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) where we might focus on Mindfulness, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Emotional Regulation and Distress Tolerance. If OCD is an issue, I use Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Inferential CBT therapy when appropriate.
